The Wii hits 5 million sold

by Bradley DeLorenzoFebruary 22, 2007

5 million sold

Let’s see… that’s:

53,763 consoles a day
2,240 consoles an hour
37 consoles per minute
.62 consoles per second

So, Nintendo has been selling 1 console every 2 seconds since launch.  Imagine if they actually had enough for the actual demand.

People STILL can’t find the console.

The stat I don’t really like about this chart is the information pertaining particularing to the U.S… Xbox seems to have a pretty good foothold here, enough to steadily fight and not let Wii be the unanswered king. I wonder how long it will be before finding a Wii becomes easy and supply is meeting demand.

Yeah.. but we need to consider how long has the Xbox been there and how long the Wii has, and since there is not much stock to meet the Wii demand, well, I’m pretty confident that the Wii will outsell Xbox, not because is better, but because nontraditional gamers are buying it, and hardcore gamers are buying both so…

About the stock, well, a tip, seems like it’s easy to find Wiis in Walmart stores in Miami (actually, it seems like there are in many stores there), mine was bought at a Walmart in Kendall (i think it’s spelled like that), at around 6 pm, so seems like people in florida dont want Wiis so much… So if any of you by any chance is in the area.. get yours!! =D

You know what those stats tell me? Japan is getting too many Wii units… how many citizens they got? Like 130 million? The EU has about 500 million… so how come we have less? I mean it is sold out in most places, so that is about the amount of units Europe has… not even considering the rest of the wolrd that has the Wii is included as well.
What are the clalculations based on? Just US or total? Because remember that the Wii was released later in Europe… not until 8th of December.

Definately good news for Nintendo, was wondering why it jumped today in the market. 5 million is quite a milestone this soon in the game but there’s no telling, like a few people have pointed out, when these numbers will begin to slow. Here’s to continued success and support for the console.

How, I don’t think the gamecube has even reached 10 million sales yet has it? This is amazing.
