Super Smash Bros Update #72: Diddy Kong Special Moves

by Dan JohnsonSeptember 4, 2007

For some reason, Diddy has a weapon made of wood. Is that jungle technology?

<Standard Special Move: Peanut Popgun>

It’s a peanut shooter!

This is Diddy’s projectile weapon. You can boost the speed of your shots by holding down the button…

But if you hold it down too long, the gun explodes, so be careful.

Also, if the shell breaks and a peanut pops out, you can apparently eat the peanut.

You recover a little damage when you eat it. Is this for real?

<Up Special Move: Rocketbarrel Boost>

It’s a double-barreled jet engine!

If you charge this up before using it, your jump power increases. And if you tilt the Control Stick left or right while charging it up…

You can even curve your flight path!

If you get attacked while riding your Rocketbarrel Blast, you’ll lose your barrels…and they can sometimes go flying away on their own.

Danger! Danger!

    No, I don’t agree.

    His Peanut Popgun is cool since I could see it starting with a low rate of fire like, say, Falco’s fire rate and then progressing up to Fox’s rate of fire or even faster before exploding. With a little practice in order to get the timing down to get maximum speed without backfire, it could be a great projectile. (Unless I’m misreading it and you charge like Samus but get more speed rather than a stronger bullet, in that case it’s a bit less useful but still cool). This combined with the fact that you have the chance to heal makes it very useful.

    Diddy’s RocketBarrel Boost is interesting. The fact that you lose the jetpack isn’t a big deal as long as you get more than one. Just remember that EVERYONE loses their Up-B when they get hit while doing it. The thing is with Diddy if you get hit you have the chance of hitting back with your barrels. The only worrisome thing is that they can fly off randomly as well. However, as long as they only fly off every once in a blue moon and, even then, only do so towards the peak of your jump, they’ll be fine.

    In all, Diddy is looking very interesting. A good projectile as well as a recovery move with a chance of revenge hits. Very cool.
