Nintendo Mensa – New Site Feature

by Bradley DeLorenzoJanuary 15, 2009

For Christmas the past two years I got a stocking stuffer calendar.  It was one of those “Page-A-Day” calendars and it’s theme was Mensa.

Mensa “provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities include the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special-interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members’ opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers, inside and outside Mensa, in projects dealing with intelligence or Mensa.”

At any rate, since I do these brain games everyday I figured, why not post the same questions in Nintendo form?  It may be a little easier, but I think it should be fun.  The first one is sorta easy, but stick around because once a day I’ll be posting a new riddle/question/critical thinking/math problem that is Nintendo related.  Eventually, I may start adding prizes to some of the harder ones.

Only rules are that you don’t use the internet (well you can if you want…but you’re only cheating yourself haha), calculators are fine too.

Here is your first puzzle, Nintendo Mensa – January 15th, 2009:

Fit 6 re-occurring Mario characters in the proper row in the grid.  When you’re done, read down the green column to spell out the catch phrase of one of those characters:

    This one sucks.
Just taking random words and leaving only one letter doesn’t make it a good riddle.
Wow, the first riddle is already terrible.

Like I said, they will get A LOT harder. I wanted to start off easy.

This is actually based of a REAL mensa riddle that used states instead of Mario characters.

Third one should’ve been Daisy, but eh. It was fun.

    Great idea, hey_suburbia!
For the third and fourth row, my first choices were ‘Goomba’ and ‘Koopa’.
I ended up changing ‘Goomba’ to ‘Bowser’, it seemed more likely and I already had an idea of what the phrase was. I got all the other ones correct with relative ease.
I knew that ‘Koopa’ was incorrect because “It’s o me” doesn’t really work that well.
