Nintendo – Wii Hard Drive is "Rumor and speculation"

Well, so much for the double USB hard drive. CVG recently spoke with Nintendo about the peripheral, and they declared it to be purely “rumor and speculation”.

Yeah, it would have looked nice, fitting perfectly to the Wii, but it is unnecessary. SD cards are so much cheaper than hard drives, and some of them contain more storage space than you would even joke about needing. Just hold out for the update that was promised to come, which will allow gamers to load files and games directly from SD cards.

In the meantime, do what I do: delete Virtual Console and WiiWare games that you never really play (you know you don’t play all of them!) and make room for more.

Yay! You actually used reason and agree with me that we don’t need a hard drive. Now if only we could convince most of the world.

Ha, most of the world likes to throw away money on big pointless things :P

Hard disk drives would be convenient for eliminating loading times, especially for big DVD9-size games like Brawl or possibly TMNT Smash-Up.

Even if they’re working on an update patch for the SD card slot, I hope it’s future-proof to support beyond SDHC or SDXC. And if they made the SD slot to work the same way as the rumored hard drive, only then would that eliminate the need for any external hard drive.

Some may not need a hdd, but others like to keep all their digital games in one easy access for their own convenience. But just because the product is out on the shelves, it doesn’t mean you have to buy it.

“And if they made the SD slot to work the same way as the rumored hard drive, only then would that eliminate the need for any external hard drive.”

Yeah, I think that is how it’s supposed to work.

“But just because the product is out on the shelves, it doesn’t mean you have to buy it.”

That is a good point, one that I often use myself. Still, I am inclined to believe that the SD update is all we need.

Time will tell, at any rate.

I would agree with Roth. Personally for me SD is better then nothing and it will work for most of my needs. But I see no point for Nintendo not to open up the USB port for mass storage; if they can do it for the SD then they can do it for the USB. Why should I buy online games that I can not fit on my system to play when ever I get the urge?
It is merely Nintendo attempting to control its customers. They have better start listening, just because Wii made them a giant does not make them invincible (just ask that company called ATARI. The bigger you are the harder the fall!
I WANT TO FILL MY Wii MENU with the games I purchased!!!!!
When you don’t give customers what they want they will go some place else for it or replace your technology; (Like maybe a Wii Emulator is what we need the controls work on PC USB we just need the Emulator and by, by Nintendo; I’m Joking)
