Animal Crossing 3DS to be biggest departure for series?

null

With all the big E3 news this past week, a lot of the smaller details may have gotten lost in the mix… but there’s something pretty interesting that was revealed. Animal Crossing fans know that the series has followed the same formula for so long… move into a town, you’re in debt, get a job with Tom Nook, make money to pay off debt, etc. There are new items, new characters, and new features in each game, but the same basic formula has been there from the beginning. But no more! Hidden away in the Animal Crossing 3DS fact sheet is this interesting tidbit…

In Animal Crossing, players move out on their own to live a life of ease in a village of walking, talking animals. But this time around, unexpected circumstances suddenly put the player in the role of Mayor in a town they’ve only just arrived in. With the help of the many unique townsfolk and one eager secretary, players will enjoy making their new town a better place for all to live in.

So looks like you’re now the mayor! So what happened to Tortimer? Who is the new secretary? What new features will the game have now with you being the mayor? We don’t know the answers to that yet, but this opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Personally, this is one of my most anticipated 3DS titles, and I can’t wait to see what’s new for the franchise. Oh, and speaking of what’s new to the franchise… the screenshots show that the characters you play as in Animal Crossing are a little taller now and more realistic looking. See, that’s a start! And all of this from a handful of screens and a paragraph. Hopefully we don’t have to wait long for more!

Finally the dull series gets a much welcome change. I will for sure keep my eyes out on this. Mayor of town, sign me up!!!! Day 1 BABY!

LOL you are hilarious Trist, I have to give you that. The fact that you actually are telling people that you are going to buy Animal Crossing is pretty laughable.

Kinda seems like they are going in a Sim City type of direction with the player being the mayor. Interesting…

I still hope they integrate more of an MMO type of feel to it, though. Not a full-fledged MMO, but to just use similar ideas.

I would love an Animal Crossing MMO, that would be awesome.

Ooh, now that sounds like something I might try for a little while…

Even though I can't stand Sim City OR Animal Crossing as we've seen it, this nugget sounds interesting.

I, personally, just hope that they put the original music from Animal Crossing Gamecube into this one. That'll make it all worth it for me… that and seeing some of the old villagers that were in the GameCube version, but were removed in the sequels. But, I don't think that I'd like being mayor. Arriving in a new town with no money and having to work to pay off your house, just being another citizen… that seems a little more realistic. But, curiosity will get the better of me and force me to buy this game, mayor or not.

I'm not sure if I like the thought of being Mayor, either. How do you get to town? Are you just dropped off and promoted to Mayor? Where do you live?
I will still buy this game, though. It's about time that AC got some new changes. BRING BACK PORTER, the monkey from the train. Oh, and Tybalt and Weber from the first one, too. I loved them =)

  • Mdwdavid

does this mean it’s just one player

  • NNHM28

For anyone who’s wondering when it comes out it comes out August 2, 2011

I’m not sure I want to be mayor because I want the animals to treat me the same as any other villager. And Tormiter probably died.:( I can’t believe you STILL have to work for Nook… He should’ve died not Tormiter!

  • Lewis Fry

but thats bad being the mayor because It means that it’s not a multiplayer game and you can’t have more than one file:(
unless all other players are not the mayor and just have a normal game, or two files= two different towns, which I don’t really lime the sound of.
