Super Mario All-Stars for Wii announced! [UPDATED]

by Hassan AhmedSeptember 2, 2010

In August of 2009, there was a mysterious trademark that popped up by Nintendo for “Super Mario Collection”. For those that don’t know, Super Mario Collection is the Japanese name for Super Mario All-Stars, which was a collection of Mario games (Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3, and Lost Levels) on the NES (and a version with Super Mario World on the SNES).

It’s just been announced that a “Super Mario Collection Special Pack” is coming to Wii in Japan. This Super Mario All-Stars game appears to be a Wii-make of the NES/SNES version, though it’s unknown specifically which Mario games it will include. It will release on October 21st for 2500 yen (approximately $30 US dollars) and will include a Super Mario history booklet and soundtrack (which will include a selection of tracks from the first Super Mario Bros. all the way to Super Mario Galaxy 2). No word on a US release yet, or what it will be known as here in the US if/when it does release.

The Super Mario All-Stars game for Wii will include everything from the original NES release (Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, and 3, as well as the Lost Levels). According to what we know, it’s being called a “port” and not a “re-make”. Nintendo will only be selling this game in the 2010, which is the 25th anniversary of the game. Nintendo isn’t sure how many copies they will release, so it sounds like it’s a limited release title. Hopefully we’ll get some screens or video soon, as well as details on if it will release in the US or not.
