Newly Remodeled Nintendo World Store Open for Business

A few weeks ago, we reported that the flagship Nintendo World Store in New York City (10 Rockefeller Plaza) would be closing for remodeling. During that time, the first floor of the store was converted to DS-only, and the second floor houses Wii games. They are also planning for a grand re-opening celebration on November 7 (from 12-5pm) in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros.

The Nintendo® World store in New York has reopened its doors to the public after a brief remodeling. The two-story, 10,000-square-foot Rockefeller Plaza store has received a host of upgrades, including new Nintendo graphics, new flooring and fun new ways for visitors to interact with Nintendo games and products.

People who stop by the lighter, brighter store will encounter images of classic Nintendo characters, including Mario™, Donkey Kong™, Princess Peach™, Yoshi™ and Bowser™, as well as much-loved characters like Pikachu™ and other Pokémon™. The store has also expanded its second-floor Nintendo Showcase to twice its previous size. The new circular display shows off a variety of Nintendo collectibles, a sampling of limited-edition and imported Nintendo DS™ Lite hand-helds, a working Game Boy™ damaged in the Gulf War and more.

Visitors will see new interactive stations for Nintendo DSi™ and Nintendo DSi XL™ systems and upgraded TV monitors throughout the store. The new flooring is made from bamboo, a “green” and renewable source. The floor is also inlaid with a beautiful blue tile mosaic in a circular pattern.

Nintendo World opened its doors in May 2005. Since then it has hosted numerous events to launch video games and systems of all kinds. Nearly 4 million people have passed through its doors to sample new and upcoming games, shop for fun Nintendo items or just share their love of Nintendo with other fans. Nintendo World has become a must-see tourist destination for video game fans of all ages from around the world.
