After naming its downloadable services on Wii and DSi with the terms “WiiWare” and “DSiWare”, most people predicted the 3DS downloadable service would be named “3DSWare”. Sure enough, Nintendo registered trademarks for 3DSWare in Japan, Europe, and Australia. So now when Nintendo of Greece accidentally puts up the official logo (pictured above) for 3DSWare, it’s really no surprise that they’re going with that name. What is new news however is that Nintendo of Greece’s website has the logos for 3DSWare, WiiWare, and DSiWare all under the category “NintendoWare” which must be the official term for all of Nintendo’s downloadable content. Now with the Nintendo 3DS launching in Europe and North America in a few days, it’s only a matter of time before we get some actual details on the 3DSWare service.
UPDATE: Apparently, Nintendo of Greece took down the 3DSWare logo and replaced it with a message explaining that it was only a mockup and they apologize for any misunderstanding. So it looks like they might not go with the “____Ware” branding… I guess only time will tell.
