The news service Nikkei (subscription required) has confirmed one of the bigger rumors regarding Nintendo’s new console; the touch screen controller. The touch screen is six inches, and it allows players to play on the screen itself in conjunction with the traditional buttons. The controller will also be used as a separate portable device and the reason being is that Nintendo wants to “attract more users by offering a console that doubles as a portable game system”. Also, Nikkei has stated that the controller features a camera that allows the player to create their own character using pictures that they have snapped. No word on how this controller, being portable and all, will be able to link up with the 3DS or most importantly, how comfortable it will be in the hands of players. More news regarding Nintendo’s new console at E3.

Almost seems pointless to have a 3DS if this device is 6 inches and can play games on its own. Terrible idea. How will games revert from using dual screen controls to having to use a single screen, seems like some games will lose out on this benefit or not have this functionality I imagine. How much will spare controllers cost, sounds costly, 6 inches, thats like Kindle, Xoom, iPad size.

I think this are just speculations, what kind of “actual proof” do they have in order to say this is true? just want to know, cause we all know nintendo can turn any “dumb” idea into something unique and mind breaking
