Star Fox 64 3D – Hands-On First Impressions

In all honesty, I was a bit upset when Nintendo announced they would not start off Star Fox’s 3DS journey with a new game but a remake of Star Fox 64. However, after my hands-on with the game outside the Nokia Theater on June 7, 2011, just after the Nintendo E3 press event, my mind has changed. It is not just a remake, as each stage has been rebuilt from the ground up for the 3DS. It looks fantastic, and it definitely captured me again as I flew through the first stage of the game. Controls took just a bit to get used to. Unfortunately, the demo I played did not allow me to change the default analog control to inverted, which I prefer. The final game (and other demos on the show floor) will have that option, though. The Nintendo representative stated that double barrel rolls have been added too. As far as motion controls felt, they were really good, but they require the 3D to be turned off. If you do not do that, your screen will go blurry quite often as you move your 3DS.

As of now, I have not had a chance to try the multiplayer. If I do, I will edit this with those hands-on impressions.
