Doctor Lautrec & the Forgotten Knights (3DS) – Hands-On First Impressions

At first glance, it seems that Konami is simply copying Professor Layton with their upcoming game, “Doctor Lautrec & the Forgotten Knights.” The Nintendo 3DS title feels much like Layton, but it expands on it in many ways. After some hands-on time, I can say that it looks beautiful both in the cinematic cutscenes and gameplay. Instead of the point-and-click style of Layton, you will actually be controlling your character in the game. In fact, there are some simple in-game puzzles, similar to Zelda games on top of the larger puzzles, a la Layton. The game comes across very similar feel to Indiana Jones. The only thing is that Dr. Lautrec does not look as nice as Layton or Jones. He has a similar look to a villain, which feels weird to have him as the protagonist. I am really looking forward to seeing this game in final form, as it is sure to be a success.
