Shinobi (3DS) – Hands-On First Impressions

by Steve CullumJune 10, 2011

Sega is bringing back Shinobi on the Nintendo 3DS. I was able to play this brand new adventure at E3 2011, and it feels and looks very good. While, it is not the best looking game that I have seen for the 3DS, but it looks nice. As opposed to many side-scrolling beat-em-ups, you must use defense in Shinobi. You must utilize the parry, learn your opponents attacks and weaknesses, and overcome them. As I progressed, I got better and better at this. There are also some third-person horse riding stages where you must move quickly. These were actually quite difficult to get the hang of, and I did not feel the 3D helped any, like it probably should. Replayablity comes in the form of scoring/time attacks. While there will be no online leaderboards, they did mention the ability to record your gameplay. They did not state how you would share this with friends, but we can only hope for something good like YouTube (even though it probably will only be through something like StreetPass). Expect Shinobi to hit the 3DS in late September.
