- Gold Wheels: Obtain Minimum of 1-Star Rank on all Cups
- Gold Glider: Connect with 100 people through StreetPass or collect 10,000 coins.
- Gold Standard Body: Get a VR higher than 10,000 points or collect 20,000 coins.
- Gold Steering Wheel: Play 100 recent matches, and use the first person gyro controls 80% of the time.
- Gold Wheels: Successfully complete all Cups in 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror mode with a “1 Star” or better rank.

- Donkey Kong standing on the Bolt Buggy holding a Blue Shell.

Mario Kart 7 – Tips

- Tanooki Tail – You can use the tail to hit green shells shot at you to hit them back in any direction.
- Just before getting hit with a blue shell, put on the breaks. That way the coins you lose will be out in front of you to recollect after losing them from the hit.
- Collect 10 coins while racing to gain a small boost during the race.
- Hit jump when going over small hills when you hit the peak for a small boost.
- If you’re in first and a blue shell is coming at you and you see that 2nd (or even 3rd) place driver is behind you, slow down so that the blue shell impact hurts them as well.
- Turbo Boost after an accident: The second Lakitu puts you back on the track press Y or A at the moment of touchdown for a boost.
- Add Opponent Mii’s to your 3DS: Turn Invitations to “On” in Mario Kart 7 and all Mii’s you race against online go to your Mii Plaza
- Turbo Boost at the beginning of the race: This has been a staple of Mario Kart games since SNES, but if you don’t know when the countdown light is about to hit the final light hold down the gas and you’ll get a boost.

        It is random!!!!! You get a random item each time!!!! BTW, after 3000, it goes 3500, 4000, 4500, and 5000. And btw, how do I get a 3 star rank beside my name? I got one after I got 1st in all 50, 100, 150, and mirror races. How do I get the other two? And I saw some ppl online with a shadow or something in the background of the 3 stars. How do I get that?

      I agree, I am at 300 coins and so far I have unlocked Egg 1 (body) (which I just unlocked at 300 coins), Cloud 9 (body), Zuccini (body), Cact-X (body), B-Dasher (body), and Paraglider (Glider). So either it is random or maybe different regions get different unlocks?

      No its not, if you read the title above the list, it says you may unlock these in ANY order, i unlocked the mushroom wheels at i think maybe 450 coins, its different for everyone, the list is in the order that the author of this post unlocked

    You’re wrong about dodging the Blue Shell. I managed to dodge it by using a boost when I was in the lead. I only managed it once, but seriously, try it for yourself. It works.

      or try what they say on the Wii: Save a mushroom, then the moment the Blue Shell dives on you, USE IT! Tried it several times, it works, but incorrect timing could lead to a problem

    I have a question. For the gold wheel, you have to play 100 recent matches 80% 1st person view BUT you DON’T really need to use the Gyro Sensor do you.. ?

    I like playing 1st person view without the Gyro Sensor.

    You can also “avoid” the blue shell under very rare circumstances. What you need is a great sense of timing and a booster mushroom. As the blue shell is on its way to strike you boost out of its path and you will be safe. This is the only way I’ve ever personally avoided this item. It may even be the only way.

      I’ve avoided it (by chance) using the boost from ramps too.

      Also worth noting, sometimes if you hop a bit as it’s getting you, it’ll only partly hit you and you’ll recover faster.
      Although I haven’t really tried that many times, might not be reliable.

      I’ve done it too, but you need a great sense of timing and a rare occasion of having a mushroom in the lead. With a mushroom being used at the right time, you can out run the explosion, but this is ONLY if you have a great sense of hand eye cordination, if not you’ll still get hit.

      a star can also avoid the blue shell but that is impossible to get in first place unless you get it from a crate, pile of leafs ext.

    With regards to the unlockables from earning coins, you can see how may coins you’ve got by going to Mario Kart Channel and highlighting or touching the face of your Mii in the bottom right corner of the screen.

    Yea, this game is totally epic :P  But uh, statement: THE TRACKS R NOT THE SAME, becuz i did Wuhu loop 3 times in a row, and the track layouts r totally different each time xI but anyway, Tip(if u didnt know):Complete all cups in 50cc with at LEAST 1 star to unlock ur Mii as a playable chara. , and that means ur Main one, no others :( , but ya, anyway, bye pplz, enjoy MarioKart 7 :D !

        The turns are flipped, for example a left turn is now right and Lakitu displays backwards signs

          No, I think he means on the loop sections, there are three different race tracks in the whole one. Like, when you’re going up Wuhu mountain, there are three finish lines, or on rainbow road, or stuff like that.

    I found out that if you time it absolutely perfectly, you can dodge a blue shell by using a mushroom

      yeah its true, right after it circles you, use da mushroom to get away

    thumps up for the 10 year old! im 13 and have a double star rank, 1300+ vr and can do all these shortcuts. tips for the rainbow shortcut is to wait the absolute longest to use the mushroom and then jerk upwards. as soon as you land prepare to drift so u get a great recovery on the landing. hope i helped :)

    the mushroom trick is when just before the blue shell hits you(just before it starts going downwards while above you) just use the mushroom or mushrooms that you have in your item box (make sure that you don’t have something like 3 red shells or 3 green shells or triple banana’s activated)and BOOM! you have yourself a trick! remember that you need mushrooms!

    Hi man, nice tips, but in the video of the 3stars tips you’d say that the blue shell can’t be avoided, but you can do it with a simple mushrom, just waiting for the moment the shell fix you (where is flying in circles up to you) and in the last moment when its about to crash you use the mushrom boost and you would be safetly away from the explosion.

    In the Dino level when you go off the jump and see the dino’s head, there is a fence past the dino separating the track. If you are high enough in the air you can go right over the fence, therefore, cutting a portion of the path way.
