The reason this game reminds you of Double Dragon and River City Ransom is because RCR was one of the Kunio Kun
games (Kunio name of the main character). Kunio was also the main character in Downtown Nekketsu Koshinkyoku which in the US is River City Ransom. Other games in this line were Super Dodgeball, Crash ‘n the Boys: Street Challenge, Nintendo World Cup
