UPDATED (4/2/2014) with a statement from Nintendo of America.
It seems that Nintendo is going to continue to change up their approach to gaming events. Last year, at E3, they didn’t have their traditional press event. Instead, they had a smaller event, a Nintendo Direct video, and several showings at Best Buy stores. This year, they have decided to skip PAX East.
When we reached out to Nintendo for a statement, here is what they said:
“Interacting directly with our fans and letting them play our games firsthand is a key component of our approach. That doesn’t include PAX East this year, but we will offer our fans a variety of opportunities to get their hands on Nintendo products in 2014. Keep an eye on our social media pages for more information about where we’ll be and what you can play.”
So, let me get this straight… Nintendo has a high priority on interacting with their fans and letting them play Nintendo games firsthand; however, when it comes to one of the biggest public gaming expos in the country, they are sitting out? Okay…
Apparently, they do have some sort of plan, though. The statement ended with a call to follow their social media pages for more info about where we can play their games. So, I guess they have something up their sleeve.
Good thing Jools Watsham will be there with Renegade Kid! He tweeted, “In light of Nintendo’s absence at PAX East, Renegade Kid will be the unofficial Nintendo presence offering a 3DS lounge to sit & play 3DS!”
